Let’s continue our vegetable gardening journey into July!
NO PLANTING July 6-8 or July 25-26! Killing signs.
According to Planting By The Signs, July 14-20 are the best days to plant above-ground crops like tomatoes, peppers, or squash. Below-ground crops should be planted on July 4-5, July 21-24, and July 31-August 2.
July 29-30 are the days to plant bean or peas — moon in Gemini. But the moon will be shrinking so not the best days for planting them, just OK.

Lots of buzzing is occurring over turf and other landscape areas right now. The two main culprits are the green June beetle and cicada killers. Click the photos above for more info.

If you see a snake, leave it alone. Let it pass or go about your business in another location.

Many people have a gut reaction to snakes that usually ends up bad for the snakes.
As you know, snakes are beneficial for the most part. They eat rodents, insects, amphibians, and reptiles but they also eat bird eggs.
Snakes are preyed upon by owls, hawks, and some mammals.

Applications for the 2024 Master Gardener (MG) training are now available. They can be picked up at our office or downloaded from our website (it’s rather lengthy).
Classroom sessions for the MG program begin September 6 with the rest of the sessions being held on specific Fridays in September, October, and November (see website for more info).
There will be a $75 fee for the training. If you have a financial hardship that would make paying the fee difficult, help is available.
Three mighty Extension Master Gardeners rolled hundreds of seed bombs with the kids at Woodstock Lavender Company’s Kids Fest in June.
Master Gardeners have a couple of summer day trips planned to Salamander Springs Farm and to Wilson’s Greenhouse.
Many thanks to EMG Celeste who filled several containers with annuals (see pic). They are beautiful!
Summer volunteer hours include tidying up vegetable/herb demonstration beds and the cut flower and dye beds (pictured is Calliopsis and woad). Stop by the office and take a look at our planting beds (we’d appreciate pulling a few weeds while you’re there!)
They will also be conducting a basic floral design workshop in August so be looking for that!
MGs also sell pine straw on Fridays from 9am to 3pm. A new truckload arrived in late May so there’s plenty for your landscaping needs.
